There are three basic formats which are often used in the document, that is bold, italic and underline. Each of these formats have different uses, depending on the wishes of document author. The next discussion will explain how to make all three of these formats by using Microsoft Word.
Creating a Bold Text
There are two common ways to make bold letters in Microsoft Word. The first way is the use of the Bold button in the Ribbon Home. The second way is the use of the Bold button in the mini toolbar.- First, highlight the text that we will change into a bold text.
- Then on the Home ribbon, click the “ B ” (bold) button
- Select another text. It will automatically shows the mini toolbar. Click the “ B ” (bold) button on it.

You also can quickly make a bold text by pressing the CTRL + B on your keyboard.
Creating an Italics Text
The sequence of steps to make italic text is similar as a way to create a bold text, but by using the italic button.- First, highlight the text
- After that, click the “ I ” (italic) button on mini toolbar
- The other way, after we highlight the text
- Then click the “ I ” (italic) button on Home ribbon.

You also can quickly make an italics text by pressing the CTRL + I shortcut key.
Creating an Underline Text
The sequence of steps to make underline text is also similar as a way to create a bold text, but by using the underline button.- After we select a text, then click the “ U ” (underline) button on Home ribbon
- Or, after select a text then click the “U” (underline) button on mini toolbar.
